Just as Jesus said, “Let the children come to me,” we welcome kids at our worship services. Children’s Sunday School begins at 10:15 a.m. when they join the adults in the Sanctuary for worship. Our children’s program is designed to teach the love of Jesus through activities, music, lessons, community and most of all–fun. We establish relationships with children that will influence them throughout their lives. Each child has an adult prayer partner who takes a special interest in that child.
Sunday School is open to kids from toddlers to 6th grade and runs from September to May.We believe in engaging them in many ways, and teach them to light the candles for the service or distribute communion. The children take their responsibilities as acolytes very seriously, as they bring the light of Jesus into the church.
When they gather at the front of the church for a Children’s Sermon, taught by the pastor or a member of the congregation, you can almost count on a surprise observation every week! After the Children’s Sermon, the kids are dismissed to their classrooms, where they learn more about Jesus and God’s love for them and all people. They stay with the congregation on the first Sunday of the month and participate in communion.
The kids also participate in local mission projects, such as collecting cans of tuna for the local food shelf, packaging food at Feed My Starving Children, or making sandwiches for people who use the Dignity Center at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist. We also encourage them to help at our community meals.
